Dark Age Brood Faction Logo

The United Worlds were conducting numerous illicit experiments on the planet of Samaria and among those were genetic engineering. Scientists recombined genes of known terrestrial creatures with those of alien lifeforms found on the planet and its surrounding moons. Many of these experiments results in horrifying abominations that possessed amphibian and reptilian characteristics. Specimens grew tentacles, sharp claws, hardened chitin plates, and in some reports- psychic abilities.

After the hasty departure of the United Worlds corporation, the experiments escaped into the wild to swamps dotting the polluted rivers in southern Samaria. There they have created hive cells that answer to the Broodmere.

The updated logo for the brood still bears the biohazard icon used in the legacy version of the faction logo. The logo now looks radioactive especially when placed on a brown rusted barrel to evoke the feeling of nuclear waste in a metal barrel.

Dark Age- C.O.R.E Faction Logo

The CORE is a faction of menacing robots controlled by artificial intelligence invented by their human creators. Before the United Worlds left Samaria, they used these robots for jobs too dangerous for the human workforce. These robots were designed based on technology uncovered on the planet, leftover by an ancient race that once came to this planet but then mysteriously vanished. After the chaotic departure of the United World corporation, many of these mechanized workers were left to their own devices. One of the AI became sentient and started giving these units marching orders in order to find a way to survive. This means finding an alternative fuel source, one that is in great abundance- biological matter found in life forms.

The CORE spent many years harvesting creatures they come across to fuel their engines. Now, they have started to evolve to deal with the new threats that loom on the horizon with the sudden appearance of lizard people called the Dragyri, and strange swamp experiments called the Brood.

The CORE logo features the original logo from one of the United World companies. The back plate is a hexagon which is a shape with high structural integrity.

Kukulkani Faction Logo

The Kukulkani is a faction comprised of bio-mechanically engineered humans harvested from the ancient planet of Terran thousands of years ago. It is rumored that the Mayans made contact with these wanders of the star and thought the visitors to be gods. The Kukulkani took on board countless for sacrifices to keep their bio-energy tanks full to power their spacefaring vessels. The more virile and most fit specimens are given the honor to fight for the Kukulkani cause. To serve, one will undergo ritualized augmentations that provide users with access to the telemantic powers the Kukulkani can channel through precious life energy.

On the battlefield, lives lost provide the Kukulkani with abundance of resource to cast powerful spells to enhance their warriors with devastating abilities. Go forth and serve, for the glory of Kukulkan!

The logo for the Kukulkani features the skeletal death mask icon. The tabs extending from the central circles each contain an icon for the sun and the moon.

Bounty Hunter Faction Logo

In Dark Age, there are unique characters who refuse to be identified with any major factions of Samaria. While Bounty Hunters can choose which factions they work with, on their own, they are an offshoot of the Outcast faction by principle. This allows other factions to take on Bounty Hunters to supplement their army to compensate for weaknesses in their ranks. For example, a melee based army could bring on a couple ranged Bounty Hunter units to provide options.

The logo of the Bounty Hunter features a compass rose to represent the pioneering spirit of these unique characters. They embody the idea of living free or die trying and on Samaria, many find themselves doing the latter.

Skarrd Subfaction- Decay Cult

The Decay Cult features disfigured mutants that look almost like zombies and the walking dead. The Flesh Echoes are shadows of their former selves, deceased units are brought back from the dead through a combination of chemicals and biomechanical implants to serve their master, Mother Blazon and her demented agendas. From decay comes life and thus this faction represents a perverted version of the cycle of life.

The logo for the Cult of Decay features muted green and yellow color scheme with a rib cage, insect-like icon in the center.

Skarrd Subfaction- Toxic Cult

The members of the Skarrd Toxic Cult have an affinity of venome and poisons that are fatal in small quantities to normal human beings. Their chosen weapons are coated with secretions of potent venom that debilitate their foes. The faction logo features radioactive looking fluid and a toxic green color scheme. The cross bone icon is reminiscent of the poison icon seen on many chemical bottles warning of its dangerous content.

Skarrd Subfaction- Cult of Metamorphosis

While other Skarrd Tribes command strange psychic abilities such as the Blood Cult's affinity to bloodshed or the Toxic Cults resistance to poisons, the Cult of Metamorphosis were able to enhance their physical bodies through mechanical modifications. Members of the tribe are required to undergo painful grafting to replace flesh and limbs with twisted contraptions of saws, blades, and hooks.

The Drillhead is one of the signature monstrosities created to serve Father Johann of the Cult of Metamorphosis. These sand worms have been grafted with strange drills that allow them to burrow and ambush their prey with frightening efficacy. They also boast two different behemoth sized frankenstein like creatures. While other factions have abominations with unique abilities, the Juggernaut and the Nightmare Juggernaut receive special augmentations to compensate for the lack of the "Skarrd Gifts".

The logo for the Cult of Metamorphosis features a Drillhead on the familiar Skarrd beveled square back plate with a rust colored scheme.

Skarrd Subfaction- Blood Cult

Updated logo for the Skarrd Blood Cult subfaction from the Dark Age game. The red parts of the previous logo has been remastered to look like a thick viscious red fluid similar to blood sitting ontop of tarnished golden metal filigree.

The Blood Cult from the game plays off the amount of models removed from the game. Each model killed in the game drops a counter that provides units from this subfaction with permanent boosts to their attacks.

Skarrd Unaligned Faction Logo

Design for the default Skarrd faction logo. The other subfaction logos will be based on the theme aesthetic.

The Skarrd from Dark Age the miniature game is a human faction comprised of tribes of mutant like beings. The men who end up lost in the Samarian deserts often go crazy from isolation or exposure to pollutants and extreme environmental conditions. Many see physical changes to their bodies while others develop strange powers similar to psionics. Once man, a fully turned skarrd are only shadows of what they once were, their minds shattered and body broken. Those with powers become leader of the scattered Skarrd tribes, each tribe is separated by distinct abilities unique to each subfaction. Despite their differences and infighting, they are collectively known as the Skarrd, borne from the chaos of Samaria.

zafari scene 1

Back in 2011 I worked with Persistence of Vision on illustrations based on the storyboards for their film called Zafari. Back then it was just a concept but the tv series release has been announced.

Here is one of the scenes that I worked on. More to come!

Outcast Faction Logo Design Spotlight

Some logos designed for the Outcast Faction from Dark Age, the miniature game.

The rebranding of the Outcast logo still uses the "X" shaped motif but this time with recognizable weapons associated with the faction. The sandstone texture behind it is light enough in value to allow the crossed weapons stand out from the background. It also represent the desert environment the Outcast has thrived in.

Salt Flat Nomads- Aviator Goggles and a scarf wrap to protect the wearer from the harsh desert winds.

Slavers of Chains Barrow- Handcuffs representing the local economy of this Outcast sub-faction.

Dark Age Logo Design Spotlight: Forsaken

Some logos I designed for the Forsaken Faction from the Dark Age table top game by Cool Mini Or Not.

The original Forsaken logo features a horse head profile design so the rebranding uses the front view of all the animals associated with each Saint for the faction.

Saint Isaac- Owl

Saint Joan- Phoenix

Saint Johann- Scorpion

Saint John- Griffon

Saint Luke- Bull

Saint Mark- Dragon

Saint Mary- Unicorn

We Exist Game Graffiti Design 2

Hey Everyone, here is another graffiti design I created for the We Exist Game environment. The file will be used as a png so that its transparency will prevent the background from showing in the game world when applied as a decal.

The name Cropsey will have great significance in the game, but that is the most I can say without revealing too much about the game ; ) But the design of the graffiti says a lot. There is a play on words between the body on the ground (corpse) and Cropsey which sounds similar when letters from each word is rearranged. The plants flowing from the body then forms the other segement of the play on words for the term "Crops". I just though the silhouette was interesting to look at, and the story tie in to be an added bonus.
